All of our breeding programe is very important to us as we are trying to breed a very healthy bulldog type breed. However we do hope to cover our costs in the long term. We have our own male Australian bulldog but we also use other males if we think they have qualities that could enhance the breed in combination with one of our females. we try to breed dogs of the highest quality so that buyers are happy with their dogs. These dogs are not British Bulldogs although they are related they are not intended to be lookalikes but a distinctave breed on their own. If buyers are looking for a cheap British Bulldog these are not the dogs for them.
Breeders should be people who make a full time commitment to the well-being and improvement of the BREED. They should have researched the breed and know it's history. the strong points and drawbacks they also know of any health or genetic problems the dogs may have. The responsible breeder should make sure they only breed from healthy dogs that have been checked by a good vet for any problems that could be passed on to their pups. They should be able to tell the buyer about their dogs breed lines and the traits they have, good or not so good. The responsible breeder should be able to recommend other breeders if they don't have a pup when the buyer wishes to purchase one. They should gather information from the buyers about their reason for buying the dog, their lifestyle, their family, and any other information that will help them to match a pup to the buyer so that both are happy. Breeders should keep thorough records of their dogs health issues eg. worming vaccinations etc. Responsable breeders realise that you will not make a "fast buck" breeding dogs, they strive for the best for the breed and that means they can't cut corners on things like food and vet checks.
Starting out to buy an Australian Bulldog the buyer should find out as much as they can about the breed and the breeder they intend to buy a pup from. They should decide on the pup they get based on the same information the breeder uses to recommend a particular pup. It is always a good idea to discuss your ideas with a few people who know about the breed. The buyer should make them self aware of the health requirements of the dog eg. worming vaccinations, feeding, grooming. The buyer should also be prepared to put the effort in to make sure the dog has adequate obedience training as they are very strong dogs and if not taught manners can be too boisterous for young children.
